Simon Delahunty-Forrest
Assistant Director Development Planning & Development Birmingham City Council
“Today Planning Committee approved some 2,592 apartments in the City Centre.
Firstly the application to redevelop Ringway Centre, providing a total of 1750 apartments, active uses at ground floor, new pedestrian links through to China Town, Smithfield and the Gay Village housed in a series of dynamic tall buildings of up to 56 storeys that will provide significant new additions to the city’s skyline.
Up next Members endorsed proposals for 687 apartments in Smithfield, welcoming an improved housing mix and affordable housing offer since the scheme was last before them
Which was a similar storey for the Sherborne Street 30 apartment scheme in Westside
Finally it was over to Suffolk Street where a 125 apartment scheme will complement the recently approved tower consented on the adjacent plot
Thank you to Members for supporting officer’s recommendations and enabling the sustainable growth of the city to continue - to the benefit of the people of Birmingham and the WM region.
Proof, if any was needed, that Birmingham is very much open for business.”
