Irish Centre BTR Tower Approved

Glancy Nicholls Architects and Court Collaboration are pleased to confirm that full planning approval has been granted by Birmingham City Council for their 48-storey residential tower design at the site of the former Irish Centre in Deritend.

The Court Collaboration residential development comprises of 454 city apartments with around 10,000sq ft of high quality amenity space.

Lyndon Glancy of Glancy Nicholls Architects commented ‘The unique design for this tower in both its form and façade treatment has be carefully been adapted and developed with the team to respond to the exceptional conditions that this island site offers. The glazed façade and expressed fins provide a contemporary signature building to Digbeth and to the landscape of Birmingham City Centre”

The tower’s dynamic form with unique leaf shape floorplate and bespoke aerodynamic fins to the west façade are direct design responses to the conditions found at the Deritend site. These design solutions create a considered and responsive statement tall building. Following this full planning approval, the scheme will join the other recent Glancy Nicholls Architects approvals ‘211 Broad Street’, ‘100 Broad Street’, ‘ Essex Street’ and ‘One Eastside’ in contributing to the future Birmingham Cityscape.  Glancy Nicholls Architects look forward to continuing our involvement going forward in the successful delivery of this exciting tower project.

In line with the city’s greener aspirations and to demonstrate Court Collaboration’s commitment to future-proofing its developments, the development will not feature any car parking and will instead be fully accessible via the city’s growing public transport network, including the latest Metro extension along the High Street. As part of the scheme, high quality public realm to complement that being provided as part of the Metro extension will also be delivered.

Construction work is expected to commence on site later this year.

Alex Neale, CEO at Court Collaboration, said: “This development will provide high quality, contemporary city living in a prime location, complementing the surrounding area and numerous high-rise developments coming forward in Digbeth, including Connaught Square, Lunar Rise and our own, Stone Yard.

“With a high level of ongoing investment and regeneration in this area, as well as the wider city centre, we are thrilled to have received planning permission from Birmingham City Council and look forward to starting works on-site in due course.”
