This month we where hosted by the University of Birmingham’s Director of Estates, Trevor Payne for a very special look at  one of the city's most recent ambitious developments - the re-imagining of the historic landmark Municipal Bank into The Exchange.  The main contractors Galliford Try and Birmingham Architects, Glancy Nicholls Architects kindly took us through the building on a special tour exploring the re-imagining of this unique development.

Director of Estates - University of Birmingham

Since September 2015 Trevor has been in the post of Director of Estates at the University of Birmingham - managing a team of 210+ estates professionals to develop the 10 year estates strategy and capital plan with a £1 Billion capital programme to deliver by 2021 . A new University campus to deliver in Dubai by Sept 2021 & a new £150M+ life sciences park to develop on a brownfield site - plus the campus preparations for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.

- Glancy Nicholls Architects

Alexa joined Glancy Nicholls Architects in March 2015 was promoted to Associate in January 2016 and Associate Director in January 2019. She has over 15 years’ experience covering a range of sectors including Public, Education, Historic, and Residential Buildings. She has a familiarity and understanding of teaching environments which has led to the evolution and reinvention of learning spaces and mechanisms across secondary, further education and higher education projects.

Her interest and experience in historic buildings and conservation has her considerable experience in involvement in the redevelopment and restoration of a number of notable historic and listed buildings, including works to a Grade I listed Christopher Wren building. Alexa has recently been working on valuable research alongside the University of Wolverhampton in the use and utilisation of HBIM for proactive heritage asset management, which was published in 2020 and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Wolverhampton.
