The Galliard Apsley Partnership welcome your views on the proposed development at land bounded by Chapel Lane, Harborne Lane and Bristol Road, Selly Oak
During 18 July and 1 August, formal community consultation is being undertaken relating to the site locally known as the former Sainsbury’s site. In addition to this website, a community consultation drop-in event is being held at Sense Touchbase Pears on 25 July between 12:00 and 19:00.
Any comments made will be considered before a formal planning submission and included within a Statement of Community Involvement submitted to Birmingham City Council as part of the planning submission.
Providing feedback to this community consultation does not preclude your ability to comment on the planning application lodged with the Council.
The Galliard Apsley Partnership, a joint venture between Galliard Homes and Apsley House Capital, has acquired the site. The Partnership is delivering high-quality schemes across the City, including the Timber Yard, Soho Wharf, Lower Essex Street and Belgrave Middleway (in partnership with Wavensmere).
The Galliard Apsley Partnership are proud to develop in Birmingham and is helping to contribute to the City’s future by delivering some of the City’s most highly-anticipated projects that include new residential developments, regeneration schemes and leisure destinations.
The Site
The 1.32 hectare site has been vacant since Sainsbury’s supermarket left; and the building has approval from Birmingham City Council for its demolition. The site includes hard standing in the form of car parking and associated servicing areas for the former supermarket. The store has been identified as hazardous to health, and access to public prior to demolition is not possible.
The site is located in the heart of Selly Oak, with Bristol Road to the east, Chapel Lane and Battery Retail Park to the north, residential development to the west, the high street to the south and further residential development beyond.
The current built form is located on the site’s eastern boundary, with the former food store backing onto Bristol Road. Vehicular access for the site is via a roundabout junction on Chapel Lane to the northern boundary.
The site includes large retaining walls to the western and northern boundaries, creating a level internal site area overcoming an 8m difference in levels from south to north. Elsewhere the levels change approximately 4m from southeast to northwest along Chapel Lane.
