Ashtrom Properties unveil their proposals for the extensive internal and external refurbishment and extension of the landmark Colmore Gate building in Birmingham City Centre
The proposals seek to deliver an exemplar office building at this gateway location at the core of Birmingham’s Central Business District.
At its heart, rather than redevelop, the proposed design seeks to recycle and extend the existing building, which enables the construction of a truly sustainable low/zero carbon structure that will maximise the use of embodied carbon, alongside the introduction of highly efficient materials and building services. These sustainability measures will be complemented by the introduction of landscape and biodiversity features as integral elements of the building design as well as significant upgrades to the appearance, façade and functionality of the existing office building, and upgraded employee and visitor facilities enhancing their health and wellbeing.
Guy Lewinsohn, CEO at Ashtrom Properties, said: “We are incredibly excited to see the transformation of this building take place as well as its contribution to Birmingham. We are committed to Birmingham and look forward to expanding our investment in the city.”
Tom Edgerley, Director of Development at Ashtrom Properties, said: “Our proposals will set a new benchmark in sustainability and incorporate hugely improved public realm and much needed landscaping and biodiversity in this prime location. We are excited to be working with a fantastic team to create a world leading workplace environment to meet and exceed the needs of modern occupiers.”
Ashtrom and their team comprising Buckley Gray Yeoman (BGY) Architects, Lichfields (Planning Consultants) and Third London Wall (Project Managers), have been working closely with Birmingham City Council over the past few months to develop their plans, and a formal pre-application enquiry has recently been submitted to the Council.
We are now proceeding with consultation and engagement with key stakeholders and the public, including the launch of our project website. All are welcome to attend the public exhibition which is being held on the ground floor of the Colmore Gate building on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th April between 12 noon and 3pm and 5-7.30pm. Alternatively, please visit the project website www.colmoregate.com to view the proposals and submit your feedback, or contact the team via e-mail for further details colmoregate-consultation@lichfields.uk.
