Torsion Launch new Compass PBSA Development in Birmingham

Compass, the new PBSA scheme in Birmingham is the second development brought to market by joint venture partners Harrison Street (HSRE) and Torsion Developments.

Compass, designed by architects Glancy Nicholls, comprises 290 self-contained studio apartments and rises to 15-storeys in the Curzon Circle city centre area of Birmingham, opposite Birmingham City University and a short walk from Aston University.

A large general amenity space is accommodated on the ground floor including reception area, management suite, Lounge, Break-Out areas with coffee/tea making facilities, study space, games area, laundry, gym, entertaining kitchen/dining room and a mezzanine area is provided for secure cycle storage. Between the blocks is a landscaped courtyard at ground floor level with seating areas and wi-fi connectivity.

The building will be directly adjacent the new Curzon HS2 terminal creating excellent transport links and sits within an area of vast new development bringing leisure and hospitality outlets along the route into the city. The site sits on the edge of Birmingham City & Aston University academic buildings and has a newly created pedestrian walkway link from Compass into the city.

The Compass brand created by Holdens was inspired by travel and adventure, synonymous with the Birmingham location which appeals to thousands of students. The accessibility to the travel links around the UK and beyond and the journey students will go on whilst at university and living in student accommodation makes Compass the perfect name for the scheme.

The Compass brand has been integrated into the communal interiors, designed by Fuse to give students a sense of adventure and independence whilst living in their new home.

David Worsley Managing Director Torsion Developments comments “Compass is our second Joint Venture project with Harrison Street (HSRE) with the full focus and aim of providing Birmingham with a ‘Best In Class’ development for students to call home. Through a full redesign and evaluation by Glancy Nicholls, we are delighted that we are on track to achieve this and cannot wait to open the doors for 2022/23 intake. This will be Torsion Group’s fourth development in Birmingham and we are excited that Torsion Students will operate its first asset in this great city. Compass will provide state of the art facilities whilst showcasing exceptional architecture and inspiring interior design for all students to enjoy.”

The scheme is currently in build with Torsion Construction and will be ready for September 2022 with Torsion Students as operators.
